Cardinals cut former first-rounder Beanie Wells

The Arizona Cardinals continued their offseason housecleaning by cutting running back Beanie Wells on Monday, the team announced.

The oft-injured former first-round pick of the team in 2009, Wells went through a series of knee injuries throughout his four-year stint with the Cardinals and had a recurring toe problem last season.

“It’s a performance-based business and I don’t know if I’ve done things up to our organization’s standards here,” Wells said late last season.

He gained 234 yards on 88 carries with five touchdown in 2012. The year before that, Wells complied 1,047 yards and 10 scores.
