Canadiens' defenseman Alexei Emelin out for season

Montreal Canadiens' defenseman Alexei Emelin is out for the rest of the regular season with a torn ligament in his left knee, the team said on Monday. Emelin injured his knee on Saturday against the Boston Bruins attempting a check on Milan Lucic. Emelin missed the hit on Lucic and fell awkwardly to the ice.

The 26-year-old defenseman had played in 38 games this year for Montreal and led the team in hits with 110. In his second season in the NHL, Emelin scored three goals with 12 points and nine assists for the Canadiens.
