Angels place SS Erick Aybar on DL with bruised heel

The Los Angeles Angels placed shortstop Erick Aybar on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised left heel, the team announced.

The move is retroactive to April 10. An MRI taken earlier this week on Aybar's heel showed no structural damage.

Aybar was injured in Tuesday's 9-5 loss to the Oakland Athletics and was said to be still experiencing discomfort this weekend. Andrew Romine will get the nod at shortstop on Saturday night against the Houston Astros.

Aybar was batting .321 in 28 at-bats this season for the Angels, who have gotten off to a rough start coming into Saturday's game with a 2-8 record.
