Report: Alfredo Aceves expected to report to Triple-A Pawtucket

Boston Red Sox pitcher Alfredo Aceves is expected to report to Triple-A Pawtucket, CBS reporter Jon Heyman said. Aceves was optioned following the Red Sox 6-5 win over the Oakland Athletics last night. In order to retain his $2.65 million contract, Aceves must report to Pawtucket within 72 hours.

The six-year veteran right-hander has struggled in April for the Red Sox, allowing 17 runs in 17.2 innings of work thus far. Aceves is two years removed from going 10-2 with a 2.61 ERA in 114 innings during his first year with the Red Sox in 2011. Last season, Aceves posted a 5.36 ERA in 84 innings with a 2-10 record.

Aceves started on Tuesday for the Red Sox against the Athletics and only lasted 3.1 innings. He surrendered seven runs on seven hits and four walks in the 13-0 loss.
