Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez is expected to begin a rehab stint with the High-A Dodgers affiliate Cucamonga, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. Mattingly said Monday would be an "optimistic" return date for Ramirez, who tore a ligament in his thumb playing for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic. He has yet to play in a game this season.

Ramirez was pushing to return by April 30, which coincides with Hanley Ramirez bobblehead night in Los Angeles. Last week in Camden Yards, Ramirez took batting practice and was hitting for power. The Dodgers acquired Ramirez from the Marlins in the middle of the 2012 season

Ramirez hit 24 home runs and drove in 91 runs with 21 stolen bases with the Marlins and Dodgers last season.
