Jets rookie QB Geno Smith's first day assessment of himself: 'It's an F'

New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith practiced with the team on Friday for the first time and didn't give himself a very good grade.

Smith spoke to the media after practice and said he doesn't resent any criticism he received in pre-draft scouting reports calling him lazy and questioning his leadership skills. Smith received his playbook from the team the night he was drafted and said he has been hitting the books.

Smith completed 6 of 10 passes during 11-on-11 team drills in his first practice.  He went  11 of 15 in 7-on-7 drills, taking 20 of 25 snaps under center, according to the New York Daily News.

“I’ve been studying my butt off. “I’ve been in the playbook learning formations and learning protections. I’m going to be tough on myself,” Smith said. “So I don’t even want to do it. I’ll let the coaches do the grading. If I’d say, it’s an F. Because I want to be A+… Hey, that’s just the way I do things.”
