UPDATE: David Garrard plans to retire from Jets

Adam Schein reports via twitter that David Garrard has texted his plans to retire because of problems with his knee.

Tania Ganguli reports Garrard plans to retire as a Jaguar, possibly on a one-day contract.

Quarterback David Garrard is parting ways with the Jets according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, but the details surrounding their parting remain mysterious.

Garrard, who signed with the Jets in May after being released by the Dolphins last September,  told the USA Today he looked forward to being a mentor for rookie franchise quarterback Geno Smith.
