The Padres placed right handed pitcher Huston Street on the disabled list with a strained left calf. It's a repeat for Street, who had a calf injury last season that also landed him on the disabled list.

Street allowed his seventh homer on Wednesday to Jason Bay of the Mariners, after entering a tie game. Although Street has allowed just 17 hits in 20 1/3 innings, 40 percent of them have been homers. He's 11-for-12 in save chances, enough to keep him as the Padres closer.

Manager Bud Black said Luke Gregerson will get most of the work in the ninth inning, while Dale Thayer will be the fallback plan.

Street isn't the only closer on the DL--the Rockies placed Rafael Betancourt on the disabled list with a strained right groin. Like Street, he's 11-for-12 saving games this season. Until he's off the DL, Rex Brothers is likely to fill in as closer.
