Gilbert Arenas, who last played in the NBA in 2012 as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies, was pulled over for speeding by California Highway Patrol in the early hours of Thursday morning and subsequently placed under arrest after he was found with more than 20 boxes of fireworks in a Ford pickup truck.

Arenas, 31, was reportedly clocked at driving 80 miles per hour at 2:30 a.m. and, according to TMZ, officers immediately noticed the fireworks sitting in the bed and cab of the truck. Arenas reportedly had enough fireworks that Los Angeles Police Department's bomb squad was called to the site.

The three-time All-Star, who averaged 29.3 points per game in the 2005-06 season, was suspended for most of the 2009-10 season when he was with the Wizards after he was found to be in violation of NBA and Washington D.C. handgun violations. He reportedly had firearms in the locker room and had exchanged threats with former teammate Javaris Crittenton, which resulted in Arenas being charged with carrying a pistol without a license. He pleaded guilty to the charge and subsequently served a few weeks in a halfway house.
