Report: Chris Paul's representatives tell other teams he will stay with Clippers

On the same day that Dwight Howard announced he intends to meet with the Rockets before any other team, Chris Paul's representatives have reportedly informed other teams not to bother pursuing their client because he will stay in L.A., according to ESPN's Chris Broussard. The Clippers recently completed a trade for Celtics' head coach Doc Rivers last week, who Paul reportedly wanted to be the next coach after the Clippers did not renew Vinny Del Negro's contract.

While most assumed Paul would re-sign with the Clippers after Del Negro's firing, reports surfaced of the star guard being unhappy after he felt that he was blamed for Del Negro's ouster. While Paul never publicly lobbied for Rivers, the Clippers and Celtics went through several rounds of negotiations to assure that a deal was secured to send Rivers to Los Angeles.

MAHONEY: Buyer beware in the NBA free agent market

Paul would have been one of the most sought-after free agents in a class that includes Howard, and he was seen as a potential fit in Dallas or Atlanta. Paul is a six-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA First Team selection. He led the Clippers to the second round to the playoffs in his first season in L.A. and led the franchise to its best-ever regular season record in 2012-2013.
