EA Sports, the developer of popular football video game franchises Madden and NCAA Football, will remove all images and likenesses of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez from their football video games, according to a CBS Sports report.
A photograph of a Hernandez card featured as an achievement in NCAA Football 14 surfaced on Twitter Monday morning. An EA Sports spokesperson said that Hernandez will be removed from the NCAA game as well as Madden NFL 25.
According to the report, Hernandez was only included in the NCAA game because of the timing involved in the publishing of NCAA Football 14. The EA Sports spokesperson said the image of Hernandez will be replaced by an Alex Smith card as part of a title update "in the near future."
Hernandez has been charged with first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd in June and was released by the Patriots shortly thereafter. Hernandez is also being probed for his possible involvement in a double-homicide in 2012.
