Report: Rockets fined $150,000 for Dwight Howard comments

The NBA fined the Houston Rockets $150,000 for unauthorized comments about center Dwight Howard during the league's free agency moratorium period, reports ESPN.com.

The moratorium is lifted on Wednesday, which is the day players can sign with teams. Howard verbally committed Friday to sign a four-year, $88 million contract with the Rockets. He passed up a five-year, $118 million deal to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The report does not state what the Rockets were fined for, but Rockets general manager Daryl Morey made some comments on Twitter this past weekend and head coach Kevin McHale was quoted after securing Howard's deal.

The NBA restricts teams from commenting on pending deals until they become official July 10. The Rockets were also one of three teams to be fined by the league for tampering.
