The Dallas Mavericks have agreed in principle to hire Houston Rockets VP Gersson Rosas to become the next general manager, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

According to the report, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and team president Donnie Nelson have been searching for a way to strengthen its basketball operations. Rosas will be given a "significant" role in shaping the Mavericks direction of personnel at the pro and collegiate level as well as taking control of scouting and free agency.

Rosas began as a video coordinator and scout with the Rockets and rose throughout the organization over nine years to become the vice president of basketball operations. Rosas is the second Rockets executive to be employed by another NBA franchise this year as Sam Hinkie left Houston to become the Philadelphia 76ers general manager in May.

Rosas was previously the general manager of Houston's D-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, where the team won two championships out of three seasons Rosas was GM.
