The Chicago White Sox are telling interested teams that they will not trade starting pitcher Jake Peavy before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, ESPN.com's Buster Olney reported on Monday.

According to Olney, the White Sox's intentions aren't exactly clear. Olney reported that the White Sox may be trying to gain leverage by publicly posturing that they will hang on to Peavy — only to trade him if they get a better deal.

Peavy said on Monday that he will be glad when the trade deadline passes, but "I certainly in no way feel sorry for myself.''

The Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly expressed interest in Peavy, who has become the most popular starter remaining on the market after Matt Garza's trade to the Texas Rangers last week.

Peavy, 32, is 8-4 with a 4.28 ERA this season in 13 starts. He has racked up 76 strikeouts to just 17 walks in 80 innings pitched.
