New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese told WFAN radio he expects star defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to play in the team's season opener Sept. 8 against the Cowboys.

Pierre-Paul underwent back surgery in the offseason and remains on the PUP list.

The No. 15 overall pick in 2010, Pierre-Paul burst onto the scene in 2011 with 16.5 sacks (fourth in the NFL) as the Giants went on to win Super Bowl XVI. Pierre-Paul has accumulated two or more sacks in eight career games.

In other Giants news, guard Chris Snee and cornerback Terrell Thomas came off the PUP on Tuesday. Thomas hasn't played in a regular season game since 2010 -- he tore his ACL in a 2011 preseason game and needed all of last season to recover.
