Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton knows exactly what Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel is going through these days.

Both were thrown into the limelight after having outstanding college seasons, both won the Heisman Trophy, and both have seen the NCAA investigate them because of alleged misconduct.

Newton said he talked to Manziel recently, but wouldn't say what those conversations were about. Newton was accused of being involved in a pay-for-play scheme, but was eventually cleared and did not miss any games.

"When I was there at college so many people wanted from me and I wanted to give so much," Newton said, via ESPN.com. "Like I would sign this and give my time and this, this and that. And nobody was looking at it through my [eyes]. If you say no to this particular person you are going to be a [jerk]. You are going to be the person that people look at as, 'What's up? We came out here and supported you and cheered for you and you can't sign an autograph?' Never mind that you signed 300 other autographs before. But that's the nature of the beast."

Newton said that people expect a lot of college athletes and that it took him a while to learn that lesson.
