Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress will have shoulder surgery next week after hurting his shoulder in practice, the team announced.

It was reported Thursday that Burress tore his rotator cuff and could be finished for the season.

Burress was battling for a roster spot with Jerricho Cotchery, David Gilreath and several rookies. He had three receptions in four games with the Steelers last season and will turn 36 next week.
