Report: X-rays negative for Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles

X-rays on Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles' foot came back negative Monday, an hour after he left practice on a cart.

Head coach Andy Reid said Charles suffered a foot strain.

Charles was fourth in the NFL in rushing a year ago and seventh in attempts. His 5.8 career yards per attempt average is higher than any other running back's in NFL history.

A third-round pick by the Chiefs in 2008, Charles has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark three times. He suffered a season-ending ACL injury in the second game of the 2011 season but rebounded in 2012 with a career-best 1,509 yards and five touchdowns. Only Titans running back Chris Johnson had a longer rushing play than Charles' gain of 91 yards against the New Orleans Saints in Week 3.

With Reid's preference for the aerial attack, the Chiefs have worked to get Charles more involved in the passing game.
