Major League Baseball is set to accept radical changes in instant replay, reports USA Today.

The changes are expected to include manager's challenges, but they won't become official until the next quarterly owners' meetings in mid-November. They are expected to be in place in time for the 2014 regular season.

A 75-percent vote is needed for approval by the owners and the players' association, and umpires would also need to agree to any changes to the current system.

MLB Commissioner Bud Selig said it is "a historic day" in baseball.

"We’re considering much more than the trap play and fair/foul," MLB executive vice president Joe Torre said at the owners’ meetings in May.

Under the new system, managers will be allowed two challenges over the first six innings of games and one after the seventh inning. Officials at MLB headquarters in New York will make the final ruling on any challenge.
