New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was medically cleared for game action on Friday and the team expects him to play in the team's preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reports NFL.com.

Brady suffered a left knee injury in practice on Wednesday and the injury was thought to be minor. It was the same knee that he tore ligaments in causing him to miss the entire 2008 season. Brady has since started every game in the past four seasons.

More from NFL.com:

Bill Belichick has never believed in trying to keep his starter's out of harm's way in the preseason. Brady has sometimes played deep into the fourth preseason game if Belichick believes the offense needs work. We'd expect to see a lot of backup quarterback Ryan Mallett Friday, but that will only happen after Brady gets his work in.
