Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert said he believes he is on schedule to start the team's Week 1 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs even though he hasn’t practiced or even gripped a football since being injured a week ago in a preseason game.

Gabbert sustained a hairline fracture in his right thumb against the New York Jets Aug. 17.

"We’ll know more tomorrow and in the next couple days,” Gabbert said to the Florida Times-Union“It’s coming up quick.”

Gabbert says he will have to play with pain if he is a go against the Chiefs.

“Of course it’s going to be painful but at the same time, you’re always playing with things, nicks, bumps, dings and bruises,” he said. “I’ll have to manage it. I’m being very careful with what we’re doing and how we’re doing it and what I’m wearing on it. I just can’t have any setbacks from here on out.”
