Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera left Thursday afternoon's game against the Oakland Athletics with an apparent lower body injury after being thrown out at second base attempting to leg out a double in the fifth inning.

Cabrera limped off the field after the play and appeared to be favoring his hip. He was replaced by Don Kelly at the start of the sixth inning.

Cabrera, who was last season's American League Most Valuable Player award winner, is having another monster season, leading the majors in batting average (.357), RBI (130), hits (173), on-base percentage (.450), slugging percentage (.683) and OPS (1.132).

He also has 43 home runs, which is four behind the major league leader, Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis.
