Detroit Tigers first baseman and reigning American League MVP Miguel Cabrera exited early from Friday's game with "irritation of the abdominal area," the Tigers announced Friday.

Cabrera left during the third inning of the Tigers-Indians game a day after being forced out of the Tigers-Athletics game early with a discomfort in his abdominal area. The Tigers said Cabrera will be treated for the injury and is listed as day-to-day. Cabrera struck out during the first inning of Friday's game and was replaced by Don Kelly just two innings later.

Last season, Cabrera became the first player in 45 years to win baseball's Triple Crown since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. Cabrera led the league in batting average (.330), home runs (44) and runs batted in (144) and the Tigers first baseman is stalking a second consecutive Triple Crown title this season.

Cabrera is currently leading the American League in batting average (.358) and runs batted in (130) but trails Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis' league-leading 47 home runs by four home runs. The Tigers entered play on Friday 6.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Indians for the American League Central title.
