New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter exited Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox with soreness in his left ankle, FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal reported. Jeter is experiencing soreness in the same ankle he fractured in the postseason last season against the Detroit Tigers.

Rosenthal reported that Yankees manager Joe Girardi told Jeter he didn't like the way the he was running and Girardi is going to protect Jeter's health. Jeter will undergo a precautionary CT scan on this ankle.

A myriad of injuries has limited the Yankees captain to just 16 games played this season. Jeter made his season debut on July 11 after recovering from two separate ankle fractures in his left ankle.

After missing the first 91 games of the season, Jeter returned to the disabled list after he strained his right quadriceps muscle on July 11. Jeter recovered from the injury and was inserted into the lineup on July 28 but complained of pain in his right calf the very next day. Jeter was then placed on the DL with a calf strain. The 39-year-old shortstop was activated from the disabled list on Aug. 26.

Jeter is hitting .186 with one home run and six RBI in 16 games this season.
