Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has hip flexor strain, no MRI scheduled

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, who left Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns with a hip injury, has been diagnosed with a hip flexor strain.

He will not undergo an MRI, coach John Harbaugh said after the Ravens' 14-6 win.

The diagnosis comes as good news for the Ravens, who appeared for a moment to have lost their star running back to a serious injury.

Rice was carrying the ball, running to his right, when he went to the turf without being tackled. The crowd went silent as Rice stayed on the turf, but he rose to his feet about a minute later, and limped to the sideline.

Rice immediately went to the locker room to be evaluated.

Rice, a three-time Pro Bowler in his sixth year with the Ravens, ran for just 36 yards on 13 carries on Sunday following a 12-for-36 Week 1 performance. The 26-year-old has posted at least 1,600 total yards in each of the last four seasons.
