Tim Thomas is expected to end his one-season NHL absence and sign a professional tryout agreement with the Panthers as soon as Monday, according to a Sun Sentinel report.

The two-time Vezina and Conn Smythe trophy winner reportedly is in route to South Florida to take a physical and medical tests before signing a PTO. A source said Thomas may require additional time to work himself into game shape.

Multiple sources, including Bob McKenzie reported Friday that Thomas was offered, and rejected, a training camp invite by the Panthers, possibly holding out for an actual contract.

Scott Clemmensen's knee surgery and an unproven Jacob Markstrom make the Panthers a good fit for Thomas, who is believed to be facing a limited market. Thomas’ agent, Markus Lehto, told a Vancouver radio station this morning that his client wants to be a No. 1 goalie again.

Thomas, 29, led the Bruins to the Stanley Cup championship in 2009-10, then took last season off for personal reasons.
