Another layer was added to the Josh Freeman saga Tuesday when the quarterback was asked to skip a Buccaneers team meeting, Jay Glazer reported on FOX Football Daily.
The NFLPA also announced Tuesday that it would investigate who leaked to the press that Freeman is a participant in the NFL drug program. Bucs coach Greg Schiano denied that he was the source of the leak.
Freeman struggled this season and was benched before Tampa Bay's Week 4 game with the Cardinals. With rookie Mike Glennon in the starting spot - and Freeman's contract set to expire at the end of the season - the veteran quarterback said he wanted to be traded or released. Neither has happened yet.
FARRAR: The NFL's Biggest Disappointments So Far
Freeman's relationship with coach Greg Schiano was already tense, and it has gotten worse since his benching. Freeman was forced to watch Sunday's game from a suite. Then came the leak of his failed drug test and today's report that he was asked to stay away from the team meeting.
It's unclear why Tampa Bay has yet to end its relationship with Freeman, but it's hard to believe the two sides won't split soon.
