Rockies, Walt Weiss reportedly agree on 3-year extension

The Rockies and manager Walt Weiss have agreed on a three-year extension, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Weiss managed the Rockies to a 74-88 record in his first year at the helm. While the team finished last in the National League West for the second straight season -- 18 games behind the Dodgers -- the Rockies' record was 10 games better than their 2012 finish under then-manager Jim Tracy.

The Rockies were expected to re-sign Weiss after owner Dick Monfort told a group of writers from MLB.com and the Denver Post last week he hoped to have a new contract before the start of the World Series. Monfort said Weiss deserved "a little" of the credit.
"We haven't talked specifically about his contract, but I expect we'll have an agreement by the end of next week with Walt," Monfort said. "It won't be a one-year handshake. We'll do something that makes you assured he's here for more than a year.
"It was a grind, and the guy hung in and battled," Monfort said of Weiss, noting in particular his response to the Rockies ongoing challenges on the road, where they finished 29-52. "He's passionate about it. He gets it."
