Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather has appealed the two-game suspension handed down to him by the NFL on Monday for repeated violations regarding hits to opposing players.

According to the report Tuesday afternoon from Tom Pelissero of USA Today Sports, the two-time Pro Bowler will have an expedited hearing on Wednesday. If he is unsuccessful in his attempt to appeal the two-game suspension, he will miss the Redskins' game on Sunday in Denver against the Broncos and the Nov. 3 matchup at home vs. the San Diego Chargers.

The league announced on Monday that it was suspending the 29-year-old Meriweather for repeated hits to the head and neck area of defenseless players. Most recently, he was flagged in Sunday's 45-41 win over the Bears for helmet-to-helmet hits on receivers Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey. After a Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Meriweather was fined $42,000 for an illegal hit on Packers running back Eddie Lacy, which resulted in a concussion for Lacy.

Meriweather's base salary this season is $1.2 million, so if the appeal fails, he will effectively lose $141,176 for having to sit out the Broncos and Chargers games.
