The 49ers will release CB Nnamdi Asomugha, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN..

The veteran Asomugha joined the 49ers this season after spending the previous two years with the Eagles, who released him at the end of last season and still owe $4 million on his original contract with the team.

Cornerback Eric Wright is expected to join the team soon from the non-football injury list, prompting the team's release of Asomugha. The three-time Pro Bowl cornerback will go on waivers after being released.
