NFLPA seeks 'fair' investigation of Dolphins over Richie Incognito's alleged bullying

The NFL Players Association has released a statement regarding allegations of bullying among Dolphins players.

Offensive guard Richie Incognito was suspended indefinitely by the team on Sunday night, as the NFL began investigating his involvement in the sudden departure of offensive tackle Jonathan Martin from the team last week. Allegations that Incognito bullied Martin have included voicemails and text messages that contained racial remarks and threats as revealed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and CBS’ Jason La Canfora.

The NFLPA statement reads:

We expect that the NFL and its clubs create a safe and professional workplace for all players and that owners, executives, coaches and players should set the best standards and examples. It is the duty of this union to hold the clubs and teams accountable for safety and professionalism in the workplace.

As the representative organization of all players, the NFLPA will insist on a fair investigation for all involved. We will continue to remain in contact with the impacted players, their representatives and player leadership.

BURKE: Richie Incognito is done as a Dolphin

The Dolphins reportedly have heard the voicemails in question and released their own statement Sunday night:

“The Miami Dolphins have suspended Richie Incognito for conduct detrimental to the team. We believe in maintaining a culture of respect for one another and as a result we believe this decision is in the best interest of the organization at this time. As we noted earlier, we reached out to the NFL to conduct an objective and thorough review. We will continue to work with the league on this matter.”
