The agent for Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is meeting with the team in hopes of signing Ortiz to a contract extension, reports Rob Bradford of WEEI.com.

Ortiz's contract ends after next season. He will make $15 million in 2014 as part of a two-year, $26 million contract he signed in 2012.

Ortiz, 38, hit .309 with 30 home runs and 103 RBI last season with the Red Sox.

He was even better in the postseason, especially the World Series, when he hit 11 for 16 (.688) with two home runs and six RBIs against the St. Louis Cardinals, powering the Red Sox to their third World Series title in the past 10 seasons. He was named the Series' Most Valuable Player.
