Mike McCarthy: Aaron Rodgers 'looks ready to play'

Packers coach Mike McCarthy liked what he saw in Aaron Rodgers' work at practice on Thursday, but the team will not announce the quarterback's medical status until Friday.

McCarthy told reporters that Rodgers looked sharp and ready to play during practice. Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinelreports McCarthy plans to have a conversation with Rodgers on Friday and then announce his starter against the Steelers.

Rodgers has missed six consecutive games since breaking his collarbone in Week 9. He refused to make any post-practice predictions, deflecting media questions back to McCarthy.

Matt Flynn continued to take reps with the first-team offense, while Rodgers worked with the second team. The Packers could opt to give Rodgers another week to heal and rehab, and stick with his much-traveled backup after Sunday's historic comeback win against the Cowboys.
