College stars including NCAA player of the year Amanda Kessel will join 11 returning veterans on the U.S. 2014 Olympic women's hockey team announced Wednesday during the second intermission of the NHL Winter Classic in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Kessel, the sister of Maple Leafs star Phil Kessel, isn't the only Team USA member with ties to NHL stars who will wear the red, white and blue in Sochi. Boston College's Alex Carpenter is the daughter of former NHL star Bobby Carpenter.

Kessel and Carpenter will team with veterans of previous Olympics, including Julie Chu, 31, who made her fourth Olympic team and Jessie Vetter, the No. 1 goaltender during the 2010 Games.
