Texas booster Red McCombs called the hiring of Charlie Strong a "kick in the face" in a recent radio interview, according to the Max Olson of ESPN.com.

McCombs told ESPN 1250 in San Antonio that he felt that Strong would "would make a great position coach, maybe a coordinator," but that he was not a strong enough candidate to coach what he called "one of the three most powerful university programs in the world right now at UT-Austin."

McCombs has given over $100 million to the University of Texas. Its McCombs School of Business bears his name.
