Pettine replaces Rob Chudzinski, who was fired after one season and a 4-12 record.

This is Pettine's first head coaching job. Before landing in Buffalo, Pettine spent four seasons with the New York Jets as their defensive coordinator.

The Browns also reportedly interviewed Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter on Wednesday and were the last NFL team to have a head coaching vacancy.
