Three American snowboarders competing in the men's halfpipe competition in Sochi advanced to the final, including two-time defending gold medalist Shaun White.

White, who scored the highest so far in the competition by posting a 95.75, is joined by Danny Davis and Greg Bretz in the final. Fellow American rider Taylor Gold advanced to the semifinals but failed to qualify for the final.

After winning the men's halfpipe gold at both Turin 2006 and Vancouver 2010, White has a chance to become the first U.S. Olympian ever to three-peat in a winter competition.

"I'll be as aggressive as I can and I'm going to put down a whole brand new run," he said. "You heard the rumors, I have been working on some big tricks."

White pulled out of the slopestyle event last week in order to focus on the halfpipe competition, which has been his Olympics trademark. Even though he was criticized for dropping out of the competition by some other participants, White said he has no regrets about his decision.

"Showing up with three full days of practice on the course being in the condition that it is, I'm really happy with the choice I made," White said. "I'm really hoping it holds up for finals."

The men's halfpipe final will take place at 12:30 p.m. ET, which is 9:30 p.m. in Sochi.
