The Cleveland Indians locked up 26-year-old outfielder Michael Brantley on Thursday, signing him to a four-year extension with a team option for a fifth year.
The left fielder has spent all five of his major league seasons in Cleveland.
The deal, for $25 million, secures one of Cleveland's best offensive players through his prime. In 2013, Brantley led the Indians in hitting with a .284 average, 10 home runs, 26 doubles and 73 RBI.
Brantley also stole 17 bases, tied for third-most on the team.
We’re happy to announce Michael Brantley officially agreed to an extension through 2017, with a club option for 2018! http://t.co/mq77A7QvYp — Cleveland Indians (@Indians) February 13, 2014
