Report: Cardinals LHP Jaime Garcia likely out for season opener
Cardinals left hander Jaime Garcia will likely not be on the mound for the season opener after being diagnosed this week with left shoulder inflammation, according to an Associated Press report.
Garcia is expected to receive a cortisone injection to his left shoulder, according to the report, but previous reports have indicated there is no structural damage.
The 27-year-old Garcia, who won a World Series with the Cardinals in 2011, said he first experienced shoulder soreness last week, according to the AP, and hasn't thrown since Feb. 18 but is expected to rejoin training camp soon.Last May, Garcia underwent season-ending shoulder surgery, finishing his short-lived season 5-2 with a 3.58 ERA. The previous year, he had sprained his shoulder and missed two months because of the injury.
