The Dallas Cowboys have reached out to defensive end DeMarcus Ware saying that they "definitely" want to keep him, but not at his current salary, according to a report from NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Ware's salary cap number this season is $16 million and the Cowboys need to get below the league-mandated $133 million salary cap by next Tuesday. He is scheduled to make $12.25 million in base salary next season.

The Cowboys could also release the seven-time Pro Bowler to create more salary cap space.

BANKS: Cowboys, Rams among NFC front offices under pressure this offseason Ware, 31, had 40 total tackles, six sacks and one interception in an injury-plagued 2013.  He had elbow surgery last month, but should be ready for the offseason programs.
