Texas men's basketball coach Rick Barnes will return next season, athletic director Steve Patterson said Monday.

Barnes, whose contract runs through the 2017 season, has led the Longhorns to a 22-9 record this season, earning him Big 12 Coach of the Year honors.

"We don’t plan on making any changes," Patterson said to the Austin American-Statesman. "He's the conference coach of the year. He had something like the second-best home record ever (at 16-2). I think everybody feels like we made a great turnaround this year."

Barnes has coached at Texas since 1998 and has compiled a 380-164 record, with one Final Four appearance and 14 NCAA tournament berths. Patterson said he has not discussed any kind of contract extension with Barnes.

"We haven't sat down and looked at it," Patterson said. "You asked me if we are changing coaches, and I’m not. All year long, Rick's team has played hard. They've won ball games. They've done well academically and been good off the floor. Everybody feels good where we’re headed."
