The NBA has made sure that the relationship between Los Angeles Lakers executive vice president of business operations Jeanie Buss and New York Knicks president Phil Jackson doesn't create any conflict of interest issues, report Darren Rovell and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com.

The report does not specifically state what the league is doing or what parameters have been set to prevent such issues.

Jackson and Buss are engaged to be married, and have been in a relationship for well over a decade.

Buss also represents the Lakers at the league's board of governors meetings and said she doesn't see any potential problems because she does not make the basketball decisions for the team. Even Jackson's former player Pau Gasol has said that he isn't allowed to talk to Jackson in his ensuing free agency because the league would consider that tampering.

From ESPN.com:

"The Knicks' hiring of Phil Jackson is subject to the league's conflict of interest rules," NBA spokesman Mike Bass told ESPN.com. "To avoid even the appearance of a conflict, we have addressed the issue with the Knicks and Lakers to ensure that the relationship between Jeanie Buss and Phil Jackson will not affect how the teams operate."
