Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw could be on the bench until May due to trouble with an upper back muscle, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.

Kershaw has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, but will likely not return to the rotation when he comes off on April 14. Manager Don Mattingly tells the Associated Press that returning from the injury will "take some time."

The 26-year old ace signed a seven-year, $215 million contract in the offseason, coming off his second Cy Young award and a career high 236 innings in 2013.
