The rights to an article that appeared in Los Angeles Magazine and detailed Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig's escape from Cuba and how he made it to the United States was acquired recently and is being made into a movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Escape from Cuba: Yasiel Puig's Untold Journey to the Dodgers by Jesse Katz was published last month. The articled detailed how Puig attempted to escape from Cuba on several occasions and finally made it to Mexico with the help of smugglers who worked for a Mexican drug cartel.

Puig eventually signed a seven-year, $42 million contract with the Dodgers and finished second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting last season after hitting .319 with 19 home runs and 42 RBI in only 104 games.

The film will be produced by Brett Ratner, who directed such films as the Rush Hour trilogy, X-Men: The Last Stand and Hercules, the last of which will open in July.
