Report: Mariners DH Corey Hart headed to 15-day DL

The Mariners placed designated hitter Corey Hart on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday, two days after he suffered a strained hamstring in Sunday's win over the Twins.

The 32-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain after his MRI on Monday, according to MLB.com Mariners beat reporter Greg Johns, and will be out for the next few weeks to rehab.

In his place, Seattle called up Nick Franklin, who was supposed to be the team's second baseman until Robinson Cano signed for $240 million. Since his demotion to Triple-A, Franklin has posted a Pacific Coast League-leading .376 batting average and 1.114 OPS in 30 games in the minors. 

Hart, a two-time All-Star, has hit just .209 with five home runs and has recorded a .647 OPS in 37 games prior to his injury. The injury comes after a strained right forearm Hart suffered during spring training.
