Floyd Mayweather to fight Sept. 13, opponent unknown

Undefeated welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will next step into the ring on Sept. 13 with a still undetermined opponent, reports ESPN.com's Dan Rafael.

The fight will be the fourth of a six-fight deal with Showtime he signed last year. Mayweather defeated Marcos Maidana on May 3, unifying the welterweight world titles and running his record to 46-0 with 26 KOs.

"Floyd will go on Sept. 13 and we looking at who he's going to fight and where he is going to fight," Mayweather Promotions chief executive Leonard Ellerbe said. "Obviously, Las Vegas is his home and the MGM Grand is always the leading candidate but we will take a look at our other options."

A venue for the fight has not been announced, even though Mayweather has fought at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in each of his last nine fights. According to the report, New York City is also a possibly for his next fight.

"[Barclays Center chief executive] Brett [Yormark] and those guys at the Barclays Center made a tremendous offer for the Maidana fight and I'm sure they'll be looking to be in the Floyd Mayweather business again come September, but the MGM is Floyd's home and they are always the leading candidate," Ellerbe said.

Among the possibilities of Mayweather's next opponent are Maidana, who lost to Mayweather by majority decision, and Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs).
