Flyers chairman Ed Snider battling cancer, according to report

Philadelphia Flyers chairman Ed Snider is battling a "non-life-threatening" form of cancer and completed chemotherapy treatment this week for the condition, The Philadelphia Inquirer's Sam Carchidi reported Thursday.

Snider is "doing well," Ike Richman, a spokesman for Flyers' parent company Comcast-Spectacor, told the Inquirer. "He is happy and healthy."

Snider, 81, continued to work in his normal capacity throughout the process, Richman said. He added the team would not comment further on Snider's condition or treatment. Snider's last high-profile public appearance came earlier this month, when the Flyers named Ron Hextall as their new general manager and Paul Holmgren the team's president.

Snider helped bring the NHL to Philadelphia in 1967 when the league was in the process of expanding. Under Snider, the Flyers have consistently been one of the NHL's most successful franchises, and Snider was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988.
