The New York Yankees have reached out to free agent first baseman/designated hitter Kendrys Morales to inquire about his interest in joining the team if Mark Teixeira is forced to miss an extended period of time, according to a report on Monday from Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Morales is expected to sign after the draft gets underway on Thursday, but the Yankees are said to be also looking at the extent of Teixeira's wrist injury, according to Heyman.  The 34-year-old two-time All-Star left Saturday's 3-1 win at home against the Twins with continued soreness in his right wrist.

A few days ago, Teixeira said he's "back to square one" with his inflamed wrist. He is scheduled to meet with doctors on Tuesday to get a better understanding of his prognosis moving forward.

According to Heyman, the Brewers, Rangers and Mariners are also said to be interested in Morales' services. Morales made his MLB debut in 2006 for the Angels. He played for the club until 2010 and then played for the Mariners last year.
