The Miami Marlins signed journeyman reliever Kevin Gregg on Monday, according to tweets from Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

The team plans to send Gregg to the minors for a workout and then bring him back up in eight or nine days, according to Rosenthal. The move comes after Miami sent their 39th overall pick in Thursday's amateur draft to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for right handed pitcher Bryan Morris.

As Rosenthal indicated, trading away the $1.4 million draft pick allowed Miami to clear up enough money to sign another reliever.

Last season with the Cubs, he had a 3.48 ERA, 33 saves and a 56/32 K/BB ratio over 62 innings.

The Marlins are off to a surprising start this season. They are currently 28-28 and are second behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East.
