Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias expected to miss rest of season

Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said the team doesn't plan on having shortstop Jose Iglesias for the remainder of the 2014 season.

Iglesias was acquired at the trade deadline last year from the Boston Red Sox and was expected to be out about five months with the stress fractures in both shins.

“We do not plan on having Iglesias back with us this year,” Dombrowski told The Detroit News on Wednesday. “He is progressing as projected. But we do not think he will be ready at any point this season to play.”

Andrew Romine, who is batting .200 this season, and second baseman Danny Worth figure to continue to get the bulk of the work at shortstop for the rest of the season.
